My own experience being someone who struggled to do all we were told to is that the ongoing day to day things were tough, but if you had a black and white (in WTS view) issue that you didnt face everyday some sort of automatic reaction got you to be all hard core. Another thing I remember is that I would resent other people getting away with things when I knew I wished I could but didnt have the bottle to do so at the time.

i remember there was a elder in my old cong that did not like another elder.
he would always bad-mouth this particular elder in field service.
Neighbour congregation to the one I attended, had some of my family in it. The original PO was brought down by another Elder who got asigned to replace him. It was over the original PO's child getting into mischief, and being hidden.
I also remember an Elder saying to me - a baptised publisher at the time - that another Elder wasn't taking the lead going out on the field service and that he was going to have a word.

Well I just got back from the pending arguement that I was probably alluding to. Its amazing how good you feel after clearing the air about stuff. I have always in the past tended to shy away from saying how I felt about a situation, which has meant i've never addressed lots of things over that time. Since I have left the WTS I have steadily been maturing beyond that state that I was held in for so long, and it feels wonderful!!!
Anyway the upshot is that things have been cleared up, and the motive has been to sort it out and move on, not simply win. In fact we are both winners!

Maybe to have a good argument (for constructive purposes) is actually beneficial to a relationship, to air your views and let them know how it makes you feel etc. Obviously the objective is to get past it and make things right again.

I realise I am capable of doing things wrong, so I dont want to be all judgemental about it, its just when someone insists you be honest with them and then they deliberately tell you a lie and after you find out, there is little by way of remorse, more defence of the reasons why, its quite upsetting.
I guess I just needed to write how it makes me feel, thank you for listening.

what i hate the most about being a witness is having to wear suits all the time.
especialy out in service in hot weather.
but i miss seeing all those sisters in those tight controversial dresses.
Arrogant presumptions made by the FDS that they are 'the one'. And that things they say are 'loving provisions from Jehovah'. Example: The allowance to count time in 15 mins, this was hailed as another loving provision from Jehovah, I was thinking where the heck does it say in the bible we should count our time! At the time I thought these poor older ones have been made to feel bad because they didnt do enough time to count - now I realise the primary reason is more likely to be more publishers and time to include on annual reports, if indeed we can believe any of the figures represent the true picture.

hey there, i was wondering if anyone could help me, last week one of my closest friends passed away in argentina, he been an ex-jehovah witness, but his family still practice as witnesses, is there any conduct in which you should attend a jehovah witness funeral, as i am unsure and would not like to do anything inapproriate?
also are flowers acceptable as gifts to members of his family?
any help of information would be grately apprectiated.

If you are familiar with Witness Meetings then no nothing different to them. If you are unfamiliar, the men dress in suits, women wear dresses or skirt and top. Bible and song book and you've got a witness funeral, which is often a recruiting drive for non believers and less about the person - though not always. Seeing as you are not a witness you can do as you feel is appropriate, I see no reason why you cant take along gift/flowers.

ok i'm not at all surprised to not be invited to my sisters engagement party as she is a jw and i'm df.
i was telling my girlfriend about it and she was shocked that as a family member i wouldn't be involved.
she already knows that as far as a wedding goes i'll probably be invited to the ceremony but not reception and that i'll be shunned at the kingdom hall, but i think the fact that the engagement is at my parents place she was so surprised that someone is so cut off from family things when in an unapproved status as per the wts.. like most people who have never been a witness, they don't realise how mental the whole thing is until they witness it.
I was unable to get online yesterday to see all your replies, but I must say how nice it is to recieve such love and encouragement from everyone, just wanted to say a big thank you to all who responded.
